Every month more and more people are coming to our area, our home, Granada and its coastline, realising the beauty, diversity and culture of a region which is the essence of Spain.

In the sixteen years since arriving to set up our guesthouse we have seen a lot of changes - new roads, improved flights, more development, even windmills! For its sheer variety alone, Granada remains one of the best places in Spain to come on holiday, to live your retirement, or to bring up your family. Stay in one of our houses or apartments, and you will see why.

Granada-villas.co.uk is a website devoted to information about ourselves – Tim and Arantxa – and the area we live in, the Valley of Lecrin. We dedicate ourselves to renovating old houses, or building new ones, for our clients in the Granada countryside. We also sell houses as agents on behalf of our friends and existing clients.

This is where we began . . .

This magnificent building, which dates from at least the fifteenth century and was used, in the nineteenth century, by a Spanish aristocratic family as their holiday retreat, is the largest house and garden in Acequias and has been renovated to provide four holiday apartments, all of which are decorated in the traditional style of Andalucia.
People staying here have the use of the pool, the garden and the many patios in the grounds of the house. The pool is in an attractive walled garden and has an ornamental fountain and an area for the use of small children.

El Balcon

This spacious one-bedroom apartment on the ground floor accommodates a couple in great comfort but can also extend to sleep up to five people in total. There is an attractive Andalucian-style kitchen/dining area with gas cooker, fridge, microwave and oak cupboards. Double doors open out onto a secluded balcony overlooking the gardens. The rest of the apartment – living-room and double bedroom – is spacious, and cool in the hottest weather. The living room is large enough to include a sofabed for extra guests. There is a well-appointed bathroom with bath, shower and washing machine.

Other apartments

The other apartments are two and three bedroomed and offer a variety of choices for different types of visitor, those with small children or the elderly might prefer Casa Maria which is on the ground floor, whereas those with a hankering for panoramic views might prefer Casa de la Vista. Acequias is only a short drive through beautiful and dramatic countryside from the motorway which links Granada to the coast at Motril (both only 20-30 minutes drive away), 40 minutes drive from Granada airport and 1 hour 40 mins drive from the airport at Malaga.

Acequias is not for you if you hanker after the golf courses and nightlife of Marbella, but if what you are looking for is the real Spain, rural, agricultural and friendly you will love it here. The Alhambra at Granada is easy to reach (30 minutes by car) and the beautiful villages and valleys of the Alpujarras are just 30 minutes drive to the east. This is where you will want to buy your Serrano ham and local honey - and drink the best water in Spain! Away from our Valley we can also offer accommodation in Granada city and on the Costa Tropical.


In Granada we are able to offer a two bedroom apartment in a central location opposite the el Corte Ingles department store, very close to Puerta Real. This apartment is newly-renovated and includes two bathrooms, a new kitchen, and a small conservatory. Most importantly it is quiet, yet walk out the front door and you are in the hub of Granada, and within walking distance of the Alhambra and the Albaicin, all this at half the price of four star hotel rooms nearby.


In Almuñecar you can stay in Casa Maracaibo, a two bedroom house only seven minutes walk from Playa San Cristobal and not much further to the Castle, the Casco Antiguo and the Playa Naturista. I cannot list all of Almuñecar´s varied attractions here; suffice to say Casa Maracaibo is in a quiet location with all day and sun and a lovely pool if you just want to laze the day away, but you can also walk anywhere in Almuñecar from here, and nearby coastal resorts such as Salobreña, La Herradura and Nerja are just a short drive away.

Want to Make a Visit?

We are delighted to offer all the accommodation above for short term holidays of three nights or more. Prices vary according to season but are in the following ranges:

El Balcon, Acequias £125-250 per week
Bigger apartments, Acequias £150-300 per week
Acera del Darro, Granada £200-250 per week
Casa Maracaibo, Almuñecar £200-350 per week

Long term lets can be arranged for all apartments and houses, and discounts are available on any booking longer than a week. Both el Balcon and Casa Maracaibo have telephone points and can be connected on deposit of £200, the balance of which will be refunded after the cost of calls has been deducted.

Accommodation prices are inclusive of bedlinen, towels, bottled gas, hot water and electricity. Central heating is provided in the Balcon apartment over winter. In other apartments in Acequias firewood is available in winter for a modest charge. Cots and high chairs can be provided for a small extra charge.

Reservations can be made by telephone and will be held for one week to enable guests to arrange flights and so on. A 20% deposit secures the booking with the balance payable four weeks before the start of the holiday. In the event of a cancellation by the client between four and eight weeks before the start of their holiday and no subsequent re-let, we regret that the deposit will be forfeit.
Cancellations within four weeks of the start of the holiday will lose the balance, unless an alternative let is arranged.
