13 course baroque lute after Jauck

720, 885 and 1010mm , 13 courses, 11 ribs; based on instruments by Johannes Jauck in Yale, Budapest and Brussels, this is a late form of the baroque lute which has a three stage stringlength arrangement instead of the more usual two, designed to give a smoother transition between bass and treble registers.

This particular instrument was made in my 2011 summer school, it has been donated to the Lute Society and can be hired by members here. It is in birds eye maple with ebony lines between the ribs and an ebonised neck and pegbox. The pegs are of cocobolo with bone pips.
